NIGER State Governor, Babangida Aliyu, on Sunday warned Nigerian youths not to allow themselves to be used as thugs by desperate politicians as the country approaches yet another general election in 2015.

He added that they should be fully involved in partisan politics.

Aliyu, who spoke in Minna when the newly elected National Executive Council of the National Youth Council of Nigeria led by the Chairman, Comrade Abdullahi Abdulmajeed paid him a courtesy call at his residence, reminded the youths that they were the foundation upon which the development and the progress of the country rest.

He said, “Nigerian youths must be fully involved in partisan politics and not allow themselves to be used by desperate politicians as thugs. The youth of any country are the custodians of ideas and creativity.

“It is imperative that the youths take their destiny into their hands. Most countries of the world pay serious attention to the development and wellbeing of their youths, hence, the call for Nigeria to protect its future by providing a conducive environment for self actualisation of the Nigeria youth.”

Aliyu pointed out that until this was achieved, the country would continue in vicious circle of underdevelopment and insecurity, stressing “youths are custodians of ideas, initiatives and creativity.”

He explained that the peaceful conduct of the national congress and the emergence of a new leadership of the NYCN was a clear demonstration that Nigeria had leaders of tomorrow.

He, therefore, urged them to use the experience and knowledge acquired in the course of the congress as a springboard for promoting national integration and national unity.

The governor also called on government at all levels to create a level playing ground that would stimulate the youths to contribute meaningfully to the actualisation the nation’s development.

He pointed out that without the contribution of the youth, “it will be difficult to achieve the vision of making Nigeria one of the twenty top Economies in the World by 2020.”

Earlier, Abdulmajeed had told the governor that they were in his house to thank him and the people of the state for accepting to host the national congress of the NYCN and hospitality accorded all the delegates that attended the congress.
