pdp 1The ongoing reconciliation of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South-West has suffered a setback in Lagos, as members of the Reconciliation Committee failed to show up in the state, two days after it was supposed to start its assignment.

The committee, which was put in place by the Caretaker Committee of the party in the zone headed by Chief Ishola Filani was expected to sit for three days, beginning from Wednesday April 18. The committee was expected to reconcile the aggrieved members of the party in the state and submit a report to the zonal Caretaker Committee.

Like other state chapters of the PDP in the South-West, the Lagos PDP has been enmeshed in crisis for a very long time. Members of the state Working Committee of the party had converged on the party secretariat on Wednesday apparently to await the arrival of the committee. The party stalwarts dispersed later in the day when no member of the committee was seen.

Also, expectations that the committee members would show up yesterday was also dashed. Party chieftains, who said they were asked to be on standby confirmed that they had not received any word from the leadership of the party on the matter as at the time of filing this report.

Though members of the state executive of the party claimed ignorance of the Reconciliation Committee, one of the party chieftains told Daily Sun in confidence that they were asked to make themselves available for the reconciliation, but that unfortunately they did not see the members of the committee.

When Daily Sun sought to find out from the state party chairman, Mr Tunji Shelle the true situation of things, he said “we are already reconciled. We don’t need outsiders to reconcile us.”

But contrary to the views of the state chairman, there are still several key members of the party, who feel alienated from the scheme of things in the party.

However, efforts to reach the chairman of the Reconciliation Committee, Mr Yekini Adeojo were unsuccessful, as he did not take calls placed to his cell phone. But one of the members of the committee, Mr Yemi Adefulu told Daily Sun that he had no idea about the activities of the committee. According to him, “nobody contacted me to serve on the committee. I just saw my name in the newspaper as a member of the committee.”
