Mugabe To Obama: "Are You Born out of Homosexuality?"

Africcon blogspot... News Line

Africcon blogspot... Nigeria Report: Mugabe To Obama: "Are You Born out of Homosexuality?"

Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe railed against President Obama during a recent campaign rally, arguing that the U.S. president wanted to force Africa to "embrace homosexuality."

The African leader often criticizes homosexuality or other perceived enemies to gin up populist support, but the turn against Obama included a new comment.

"Then we have this American president, Obama, born of an African father, who is saying we will not give you aid if you don’t embrace homosexuality," Mugabe said.

"We ask, was he born out of homosexuality? We need continuity in our race, and that comes from the woman, and no to homosexuality. John and John, no. Maria and Maria, no."

He then broke briefly into Shona, a native Zimbabwean language, before concluding, it’s not clear about whom, “"f they don’t, we will cut their heads off."

Mugabe also reiterated his oft-repeated comparison between homosexuals and pigs.

"They are worse than dogs and pigs, yes worse than dogs and pigs," he said. "I keep pigs and the male pig knows the female one."

Parts of the speech, including some of the swipe at Obama, were independently reported in the Zimbabwean outlet NewsDay.

Mugabe is facing reelection on July 31. It’s the country’s first presidential vote since a violence-ridden 2008 election that was met with such international outcry that Mugabe was forced to accept a power-sharing arrangement with one of his rivals, though he has appeared to largely maintain power.

Mugabe has run Zimbabwe since 1980 and is now 89 years old but shows no signs of ceding power willingly.

Attitudes toward homosexuality are negative in much of sub-Saharan Africa, where homophobia is often used by populist leaders looking for an easy enemy or a way to divert from tougher issues.

The Obama administration’s plan to support gay rights in Africa has at times been met with a backlash and a belief among some that the United States wishes to impose homosexuality on Africans.

Just for good measure, Mugabe also criticized Britain, which he called, in an almost word-for-word reproduction of long-held North Korean propaganda tropes, "a very cold, uninhabitable country with small houses."

How Notorious Al Mustapha Tried to Kill Me! By Alex Okiemute Kabba

Africcon blogspot... Nigeria Report:
How Notorious Al Mustapha Tried to Kill Me! By Alex Okiemute Kabba

It is no longer news that the notorious Major Al Mustapha, the former Chief Security Officer, CSO, to the Late dictator General Sani Abacha drove me into exile in the USA.

What is news happened late last week when a Federal appeal court in Lagos, Nigeria freed Al Mustapha of all counts of Capital Murder of Kudirat Abiola, the wife of the late Chief MKO Abiola, whose annulled June 12 1993 election victory plunged Nigeria into political anarchy; which almost led to the break-up of the Country.
During the reign of Abacha, Al Mustapha terrorized the country to no end.
Even then, serving generals were afraid of him.
Now a feckless appeal court and a bungling prosecuting team have freed this murderer, who wanted to kill me and hang my hide in ASO Rock for dart games is now breathing the air of freedom made possible by democracy, which he so persecuted us for because he wanted Abacha and the Military to rule forever.

Suspicion has arisen that this judgment which freed Al Mustapha may not stand the smell test.
Consider what has happened since his freedom.
The Military authorities in Nigeria have made it known that Al-Mustapha is still in the army and will soon be decorated with a new rank of Brigadier-General presumably the rank of his mates (since denied by the military).
It cannot be said that the Military authorities will gleefully announce that a disgraced and fallen murderer would be promoted without ASO Rock having no inkling of the development.

A man who pursued me in Abuja in 1994 to 1995 with Vengeance detaining me in Alagbon, (Lagos), Wuse, Kuje (Abuja), detention Centers and finally sending  a 20-man Killer squad made up of soldiers, State security services , SSS, operatives and Policemen to arrest me and finish me off is now allegedly to be promoted  to a two –star general for all the atrocities that he committed with his Boss, Abacha.
Could this be a desperate political play by President Goodluck Jonathan’s 2015 calculations?

What do we tell the family of Bagauda James Kaltho, a Journalist Colleague of Mine at the Abuja Bureau of THE NEWS / TEMPO/ PM / News, who succeeded me as bureau chief after I fled to the USA, who was eventually murdered by the goons of Al Mustapha and his body dumped at the Durbar Hotel, Kaduna and destroying his name by blood-labeling him as a bomber?.
I cannot believe that a civilian government will attempt to use a serial killer like Al Mustapha for any useful purpose in a democracy, which the Yobe-born Major fought so hard to abort.
A military major who, on account of his activities, dislocated my life and that of my family and barely escaped his killers by the grace of God.
We wait to see what the powers that be in Abuja are planning with the schemed release and probable elevation of Al Mustapha.

Since President Jonathan does not know history of those who fought for the democracy that he is enjoying now, I call on him to promote Al Mustapha to a four Star general and make him his chief of Army Staff so that he can make history to repeat itself.

A writer wrote that those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

I hope Jonah is listening.
Any role for Al- Mustapha so soon after his technical acquittal of murder of numerous Nigerians whom he killed in cold blood would make the Nigerian President an accomplice of Abacha and Al Mustapha, to be spitting on the graves of the heroic Nigerian fighters for democracy, many of whom lost their lives, and many scattered in exile un-rehabilitated.

Al Mustafa’s quick rehabilitation in the book of President Jonathan taught me two lessons: this kind of swift rehabilitation of murderers and criminals is the reason why not many are willing to die for Nigeria and which is why Nigeria under President Goodluck Jonathan has become one of open sesame of Looting, Kidnapping, and abuse of Presidential Power.

The Ingrates who inherited power have forgotten the blood and the suffering of the patriots who fought Abacha to a stand still to smoothen their way to Aso Rock and are now behaving like drunks who do not know how democracy came to the country.
At the appropriate time we will tell them.

Nigeria Scales Up To 36th Position On Global GDP Ranking: A 6.6 Percent Growth Rate, One Of The Fastest Obtainable Worldwide

The Federal Government on Thursday said the nation had witnessed improvement in the global Gross Domestic Product ranking from number 44th in 2010 to 36th in 2012 and had recorded significant improvements in economic fundamentals as a result of the reform embarked upon by it.

While calling on Nigerians in the Diaspora to bring their investments home and assist in improving the country’s Foreign Direct Investment, the government also claimed that the economy grew by about 6.6 per cent last year.

President Goodluck Jonathan, who was represented by Vice-President Namadi Sambo, said this while declaring open the 6th National Diaspora Day Conference organised by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation in Abuja.

The conference had as its theme, ‘Diaspora Nigerians –Agents of investment and development.’
“We have further reduced our fiscal deficit in the 2013 budget to 1.81 per cent of the GDP and significantly cut domestic borrowing,” Jonathan said.

The 6.6 per cent economic growth, he said, was by far one of the fastest growth rates obtainable worldwide.
He also applauded Nigerians in the Diaspora, who had responded positively to the call for greater involvement in the nation building process, adding that they should be very proud for their remittances and investments in Nigeria’s fast-growing stock market, real estate and other business ventures.

The President said, “We are creating an enabling environment to attract both foreign and local investors into the country. Nigerians in Diaspora must now respond positively to the invitation to come home and contribute to the development of this nation.

“As a concrete step towards achieving our objectives, this year’s Diaspora conference should be greatly focused and result-oriented. The success of countries such as India, China, Pakistan, Thailand and the Philippines, which have strategically engendered the Diaspora as a mechanism to accelerate national development, is an excellent model for us to understudy.

“The Indian experience, in particular, has shown that Diaspora communities are important sources of Foreign Direct Investments, trade linkages, knowledge and technology transfer.
Having lived abroad and embraced international best practices, Nigerians in Diaspora possess the requisite experience, expertise and contacts to contribute to all facets of our national life.

Two Army Majors and thirteen soldiers killed by Boko Haram Terrorists in the North Eastern states of Borno, Yobe, as well as UNAMID operations in Darfur, Sudan, were yesterday given national burial at the National Military Cemetery in Abuja with President Goodluck Jonathan insisting that the nation will win the war on terror.

At the burial ceremony which took place at the National Military Cemetery, Abuja, scores of officers and men of the force, amidst grieving relatives of the gallant officers and men, Jonathan represented by Vice President Namadi Sambo described the death of the officers and soldiers as a sacrifice for the nation’s unity.

Tension Ahead Of 2015 Disturbing — Jonathan

Africcon blogspot... Nigeria Report:
Tension Ahead Of 2015 Disturbing — Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday vowed to use his influence as the President of the country and as the leader of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party to end what he described as “political excesses” currently characterising the nation’s polity.

He said his intervention had become necessary because politicians’ excesses were unnecessarily overheating the polity ahead of the 2015 general elections.

A statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, quoted Jonathan as making the pledge during a closed-doors meeting he had with a delegation of the Nigerian Bar Association, led by its President, Mr. Okey Wali (SAN), and three of his predecessors, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

While responding to the concerns raised by the NBA on political developments in the country, especially the happenings in Rivers State, the President said he would do all that was humanly possible to curb the rising political tension in the country, which he described as uncalled for.

He said, “The political tension in the country is mainly built around the 2015 elections, which should not be the case.
It is quite disturbing.
The year 2015 is still far off.
I expect politicians to focus on the business of governance now.
We must do what we were elected to do first.
“We will do our best to curb the overheating of the polity.”

The President, who had been roundly criticised alongside his wife, Patience, as being behind the crisis in Rivers State, was also said to have told the NBA delegation that he had asked for a detailed brief on the security situation in the state.

He, therefore, assured the group that all necessary actions would be taken to ensure adherence to the rule of law and maintenance of law and order in the troubled state.

Addressing other issues raised by the delegation, Jonathan said his administration was implementing the right policies, programmes and projects to accelerate economic development and boost employment in the country.

He called for “a little more patience” from Nigerians, saying that the results of the present administration’s efforts in areas, such as power supply, would become even more apparent in due course.

“In its address to the President delivered by Mr. Wali, the NBA conveyed its views on the state of the national economy, national security, the rule of law, independence of the judiciary, the anti-corruption crusade, elections and the electoral process as well as the ongoing review of the 1999 constitution.”

In an interview with State House correspondents shortly after the meeting, Wali said his association was greatly concerned about the negative developments in Rivers State, and had therefore called on Jonathan to do all within his powers to ensure that peace returns to the state.

Fake Fashola’s Wife Charged

Fake Fashola’s Wife Charged

A 53-year old teacher on grade level 10, Mrs Asogbon Victoria Abosede has been arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court for allegedly impersonating the wives of Lagos State Governor, Dame Emmanuela Abimbola Fashola and her Osun State Counterpart, Mrs Sherifat Aregbesola.

In a 10-count charge filed by the Lagos Attorney General before the court, Mrs Asogbon was alleged to have, at various times, represented herself as Mrs Fashola and Mrs Aregbesola through text messages to some individuals and collected huge sums of money and Ramadan gifts from them.

In one of the charges, Mrs Asogbon was alleged to have fraudulently collected N100,000 from the Chairman of Agbado/Oke-Odo Local Government Council after sending him a text message claiming that she was sent to collect the money by Fashola’s wife.

Asogbon was also alleged to have sent similar text message to Isaac Omoregie, Education Secretary of Alimosho Local Government and collected three blackberry phones worth N105,000 from the chairman of the local government under the guise of being sent by the governor’s wife.

In yet another incident, Asogbon was alleged to have secured redeployment from local government education authority, Alimosho to the Lagos State Basic Education Board through a text message purportedly sent to the Chairman of Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, Mrs Gbolahan Khadijat Daudu by Mrs Fashola.

State Prosecutor Babatunde Sunmonu also alleged that Asogbon at another time, claimed through a text message that she is a sister to Mrs Sherifat Aregbesola and attempted to defraud Mrs Gbolahan.
The offences allegedly committed by the defendant are contrary to and punishable under sections 378, 312 and 96 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2011.

Asogbon pleaded not guilty to the charges after it was read to her in court.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs Eniola Fabamwo subsequently granted her bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties.
The defendant is also to deposit N250,000 with the court as part of the conditions for her release.

The matter has been adjourned till 2 September, 2013 for trial.

I Want To Export Gay Marriage Around The World - British Prime Minister

I Want To Export Gay Marriage Around The World - British Prime Minister

British prime minister, David Cameron today vowed to ‘export’ gay marriage around the world as he held a party to celebrate the passage of legislation in Britain.

The Prime Minister told a gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender reception in Downing Street of his personal pride at legalising gay marriage.

Mr Cameron told guests at the same reception one year on that Britain was now “the best place to be gay, lesbian or transgender anywhere in Europe”.

He added, “that is a great achievement. That’s not my measure; that is an internationally recognised measure.
But there’s still a lot more work to be done.”

Thanking the ministers and civil servants who helped to pass the legislation into law despite objections from the Tory Right, he said, "It’s been a real pleasure to work with you and to deliver this landmark social change for our country, which to me still comes back to the simple word of commitment.”

He added that he wanted to "export" same sex marriage around the world so other countries could follow suit.

But he risked controversy by suggesting that his ministers should now fan out across the globe to spread gay marriage around the world.

‘I’m personally proud of this,’ he said. ‘I think it’s a really good step.
I’ve told the Bill team I’m now going to reassign them because, of course, all over the world people would have been watching this and we’ve set something of an example of how to pass good legislation in good time.

‘Many countries are going to want to copy this.
I talk about how we’ve got to export more, so I’m going to export the Bill team.

'I think they can take it around the world.’

Mr Cameron signal led that he wants to go further in pressing gay rights.
He told the gathering: ‘There’s still a lot more work to be done.

'There’s work to be done talking to our Commonwealth partners about decriminalising homosexuality in various

Why I gave N100m to Edo market women – Oshiomhole

Why I gave N100m to Edo market women – Oshiomhole

Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, Thursday, said he decided to give N100million to market women in the state because they have been crucial to the sustenance of democracy in the state.

The State Government Wednesday gave N100 million revolving, interest-free and non-refundable grant to market women in the state to boost their trade with a call on them to continue to defend democracy and good governance.

Oshiomhole who spoke at a reception organized for him by market women across the state also asked them to forward names of twenty candidates to government for Board appointments.

According to the governor, “next month, the state government will give the market women N100 million and you people know how best to share it to support your business.
This money should be rotated amongst yourselves and you do not have to pay back to the government.

Also forward twenty names to the Chief of Staff, we will put them in various boards under Edo State government because this government is your own and you must participate in it.

“As our mothers and sisters, individually and collectively you carry our message of hope across the 192 wards, you canvassed for support, enlightened the people on what we are doing right and even with the promise to do more and at the end of the day the people listened, they voted and ACN won 18 over 18. You did it before and you have done it again on the basis of what is good for the Edo people,” he noted.
The Governor noted, “I like having meetings in this hall just to remind us of what has changed, how we can build a new world from the ashes of the old that we can now have a beautiful hall for a secondary school and from Edo North, Edo Central, Edo South we are building schools, so that your children, the child of a market woman will have every reason to look forward to a decent school.

Never again will the Edo child be taught in a class without roof or even without teachers.

“I am very appreciative and even committed along with members of my cabinet, we are clear that we are here only because you are here.
we are a passing phase you are a permanent force, we have shown that a state can work when those in government recognize that the power that they exercise belong to the people and the power is exercised solely on their behalf and no government is legitimate if its actions are not informed by the greatest good for the greatest number of her citizens.

“We have shown that the performance of a government is not necessarily determined by the amount of oil money we get every month from Abuja.
we have shown that we can look inward and reinvent our state, reposition it on the path of sustainable development, we are proud to say that there is no local government that people can not point at what has changed and even what is changing and promise what is still going to change and with you by our side we can not be afraid,” he noted.

The Governor urged the women to “defend the gains of good governance, to defend democracy because it is the only form of government that gives the market woman power to hire and fire, that power you must retain and use it judiciously and to insist that beyond election day the governor and the governed must meet eye ball to eye ball to give account and that is the gain of democracy.

“You must have the confidence to talk to your governor the way you talk to your husband or your son so that never again are we going to have a graveyard silence in Edo state.
As Nigeria moves, the Edo woman must be counted on the side of democratic forces,” he added.

Earlier, the Secretary General of the Edo State Market Women Association, Mrs. Blackie Omoregie  said the forum was to congratulate the governor for the victory in the governorship election and commend him for his developmental efforts.

“We like to bring to your notice the inability of  previous  governments to grant interest free-loans to  market women.
We shall be most grateful if your administration can rescue us in this direction,” she added

Liverpool Manager has said Luis Suarez should forget about speaking to Arsenal and should be looking to repay the club's fans

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has said Luis Suarez should forget about speaking to Arsenal and should be looking to repay the club's fans who have stood by him over the past two years.

Arsenal this week tabled an increased bid of just over £40m for Suarez, which was designed to trigger a clause in the 26-year-old's contract which would allow talks to take place.

If Arsenal want the player, their £40,000,001 bid for Luis Suarez is nowhere near the player’s value.

AfricCon Transfers Update
Report Says;
If Arsenal want the player, their £40,000,001 bid for Luis Suarez is nowhere near the player’s value.

Blogspot - Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has told Arsenal their £40,000,001 bid for Luis Suarez is nowhere near the player’s value.

Rodgers: Suarez treated like a son

Suarez will be allowed to hold talks with the Gunners after the offer, made on Tuesday, triggered a clause in his contract.

Liverpool, though, maintain that the clause does not oblige them to sell the 26-year-old at that price and have rejected the bid. Rodgers suggested last week that Suarez is as valuable as Edinson Cavani, who joined Paris Saint-Germain for €64 million (£55 million) on July 16.

Liverpool Echo; Arsenal must up Suarez bid

AfricCon Transfers Update
Report Says; If Arsenal want the player, then they have to produce the value for the player

Blogspot - The Anfield manager told the Liverpool Echo: “If Arsenal want the player, then they have to produce the value for the player. There was an offer a few weeks ago of £35 million and, two weeks later, it is now £40,000,001. I don’t think it is anywhere near the value of what he is worth.

“It is two-fold, really. A player may want to go, but then somebody has to pay the value or worth of that player.”

Suarez played for the final 20 minutes on Wednesday as Liverpool beat Melbourne Victory 2-0  in a friendly in Australia.

Last Night a Two-month-old baby and parents Lost Their Life in Fire incident

Africcon blogspot - News Line...

Africcon blogspot Nigeria Report:
A two-month old baby and her parents lost their lives in a midnight inferno that razed their residence in Kajola community, Osun State, in the early hours of Wednesday.

A resident, who pleaded anonymity, said the couple and their baby were consumed by the fire without anyone noticing  in the neighbourhood.

It could not be ascertained whether the tragedy occurred before a light rain on Wednesday or after.

Our correspondent, however, noted that the incident had thrown the community into grief.

One of the children of the deceased, who went for a vigil, wept uncontrollably when she returned home in the morning to meet the charred bodies of her parents and sibling.

All the household gadgets of the family were burnt in the inferno suspected to be caused by a power surge.

The state Deputy Governor, Mrs Titi Laoye-Tomori, who visited the scene, expressed shock.

Laoye-Tomori, who gave an undisclosed amount of money to the family, said, “The  government will henceforth be responsible for the upkeep of the surviving children.”

Officials of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps took the corpses of the victims to the mortuary.

The Public Relations Officer, Ife-Ile PHCN Business District, Mr Akin Otaraki, said the fire outbreak could not have been cause by a power surge because the area had been disconnected from power supply by Power Holding Company of Nigeria.

“The community and some others had been in darkness since Saturday, July 20, 2013 due to a yet-to-be identified fault. The fact on the ground is that the inferno could  not have been caused by a power surge because there has not been power supply to the affected communities, including Kajola,” Otaraki said.

House Of Representatives Rejected Immunity For President, Vice-President, Governors (Constitution amendment)

Africcon blogspot - News Line...

Africcon blogspot Nigeria Report:
The House of Representatives on Wednesday passed 85 new clauses to the 1999 Constitution (as amended), among which was the rejection of immunity for the President and state governors facing criminal charges.

By the new provision on immunity, the President, Vice-President, governors and their deputies will vacate office, if convicted of any criminal offence.

A total of 339 out of the 360 members of the House voted on Wednesday to pass the clauses.

Voting and collation of results ended at about 10.43pm.

On immunity, 306 members voted to remove it, 17 opposed it, while 14 abstained.

The House retained four years as the tenure of office of elected officials.

Similarly, 293 lawmakers voted to endorse autonomy for local governments, as against 39 who opposed it. Seven others abstained.

This development meant that the House took a different position on the issue, compared to the Senate, which rejected autonomy for the councils.

Lawmakers also scrapped State Independent Electoral Commissions and transferred the responsibility of conducting council polls to the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Independent candidacy was also endorsed by the House, meaning that in future, persons who do not belong to any political party, can stand for elections as individuals.

A total of 313 lawmakers endorsed the provision, while eight opposed it. Twelve others abstained.

Like the Senate, the House retained the controversial proposal on life pension for the President, Vice-President, Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives and Deputy Speaker.

A total of 284 lawmakers endorsed the provision, with only 18 opposing it. Thirty-six others abstained.

Other highlights included the transfer of health, housing, electricity and railways from the Exclusive Legislative List to the Concurrent List.

This implies that states can now make laws on these issues.

However, the issue of minimum wage and labour matters were retained in the Exclusive List.

The House adopted all the recommendations of its report on the Peoples’ Public Sessions it conducted across the Federation on November 10, 2012.

The sessions were conducted by its Ad-Hoc Committee on Constitution Review headed by the Deputy Speaker, Mr. Emeka Ihedioha.

Lawmakers had to resort to voting manually on Wednesday as attempts to use electronic voting system failed.

The much-hyped intervention by NigComsat to rescue the situation failed to work after more than three hours of trying.

The House had co-opted NigComsat on Monday to assist, by installing an improvised electronic voting system with the aid of ipads.

The improvised system was to serve as temporary replacement for the faulty voting system in the House.

The Director-General of NigComsat, Mr. Ahmed Rufai, who supervised the installation of the temporary system on Tuesday, had assured lawmakers that it would work perfectly for the purpose of voting.

However, as members got set to vote on Wednesday, the system failed to work.

Members waited for over three hours as Rufai and his technicians battled to fix the problem to no avail.

Rufai claimed to have tested the system earlier in the morning and ascertained that it worked, but it suddenly failed to transmit signals as voting was about to start around 11am.

In the face of the development, the Speaker, Mr. Aminu Tambuwal, opted for manual voting.

The manual voting was a tedious process, involving voting by 339 sitted lawmakers, collation of results and analysing the results to meet the constitutional requirement of two-thirds majority (240) to pass any proposal.

Each member voted using a document containing the 87 changes (clauses) proposed for inclusion in the constitution.

Two of the clauses were later dropped, leaving 85 as passed.
