THE Niger State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party on Tuesday lauded the peace moves made by elders of the party, particularly ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo and former dictator Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, describing them as “true elders of the country who want peace.”
In a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the PDP in the state, Alhaji Hassan Saba, the party called for quick resolution of the crisis that has hit the party since its special national convention, which held at the Eagle Square in Abuja last month.
The statement read, “We commend our elders who stepped in to resolve the internal crisis, especially Generals Olusegun Obasanjo and Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida. We believe that resolution of the dispute will enable the party to focus on other activities, especially the 2015 general elections.
“The deliberation at the stakeholders’ meeting was very fruitful with each stakeholder proffering the way forward for the resolution of the crisis.
“All parties to the dispute are encouraged to accept the decision of the peace meeting not to make comments on the crisis publicly until the October 7 date when another meeting will be held. And we believe that the meeting will come to a final decision and chart the way forward for the party.”
Saba said that Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu briefed the stakeholders on the major decisions taken at the peace meeting held with President Goodluck Jonathan, the G-7 Governors and other governors of the party present.
The statement said Aliyu commended the leadership of the party in the state for not allowing the crisis to affect its day-to-day running, saying “this is an indication that we are all working together as one family”.
Some of the stakeholders at the meeting included the Chairman of the Niger PDP, Dr. Abdulrahaman Enagi; the Deputy Chairman, Barrister Tanko Beji; elected and appointed public office holders.
