PDP Crisis’ll Not Affect Senate – Ndoma - Egba

The National Assembly will resume today after its vacation amid fears  that the crisis in the ruling Peoples Democratic Party may affect the leadership of the Senate as a result of its alleged loyalty to the embattled PDP National Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur. In this interview, Senate Leader, Chief Victor Ndoma-Egba, SAN, says the crisis will not in any way affect the leadership of the upper legislative body. He also speaks on the expectations of the people from the Senate and the best way to resolve the PDP crisis. Excerpts:

40 Soldiers Feared Dead In B’Haram Ambush

No fewer than 40 soldiers of the Nigerian Army were feared killed in a Boko Haram ambush  in the north of Borno State.

A highly placed military source told our correspondent on  Tuesday that about  65  others were missing as a result of the attack by the Islamic militants.

Investigations revealed that  the insurgents attacked the soldiers   in Kasiya Forests, north of Borno State.

Amaechi’s NGF Calls For Okonjo-Iweala’s Resignation

Members of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum have called on the Minister of Finance, who is also the Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, to resign her appointment if she knew she would not be able to adhere strictly with the Appropriation Act 2013.

They said the non-compliance with the revenue projections of the Federal Government 2013 Budget was also a direct breach of the provisions of the Appropriation Act, 2013.

No sooner had the Speaker, Aminu Tambuwal  announced that ‘this communication I am going to read concerns only the PDP members”, than a rumpus erupted on the floor of the House.

Nigerians Encourage Corruption – Jonathan



President Goodluck Jonathan  has lamented  that in spite of institutional reforms aimed at fighting corrupt practices, Nigerians, through their actions encourage graft.

He also said both the  public and private sectors were involved in corruption but stated that he would not give out their names “so that  I won’t be attacked.”

Nigeria’s Sovereign Wealth Fund, SWF, has invested more than $200 million in the United States bond market.

The fund was given by the SWF to UBS, Credit Suisse and Goldman Sachs, to manage a fixed income portfolio.
