ELDERS of the Peoples Democratic Party in Taraba State on Monday said that the interference of non-indigenes in the internal politics of the state was over-heating the polity.
The elders said that the non-indigenes should leave the state alone with its internal politics.
Some non-indigenes of the state have visited Taraba State to see its governor, Dambaba Suntai, who returned to the state from the United States of America,
where he underwent treatment for injuries he sustained when the small aircraft he piloted crashed in Yola, Adamawa State, almost a year ago.The elders said that the non-indigenes should leave the state alone with its internal politics.
Some non-indigenes of the state have visited Taraba State to see its governor, Dambaba Suntai, who returned to the state from the United States of America,
Those who had visited Suntai included a former Minister of Information, Prof. Jerry Gana; and presidential candidate of the National Transformation Party, Dr. John Dara.
The chairman and secretary of the Taraba elders, Dr. Mohammed Shata and Senator Ambuno Sunday respectively, on Monday condemned non-Taraba indigenes who had been speaking with journalists on the state of health of the state governor.
The elders in a joint statement said, “We the Taraba State PDP elders met today in Jalingo and discussed the situation in the state, especially relating to the return of the Executive Governor of Taraba State, Danbaba Suntai, from overseas medical treatment in the USA after last year’s plane mishap.
“It is disheartening to note that there was breakdown in communication on the scheduled movement of the governor from the USA to Nigeria.
“Equally disturbing is the appearance of some public figures (not Taraba indigenes) notably Prof. Jerry Gana and Mr. John Dara who received the governor and addressed the news media on the health status of the governor as if they were medical personnel.
“The elders added that the actions of the non-indigenes were being seen as a calculated intention to create political disunity in the state.
“This became apparent when words begin circulating that these public figures were holding meetings in Abuja on the Taraba issue which resulted in the quagmire that arose in the state when the governor arrived Jalingo.
“In view of the foregoing, we wish to strongly reiterate that groups or individuals, especially the aforementioned public figures that appeared at Abuja Airport to receive the governor and subsequently addressed the news media should desist from meddling in the internal political affairs of Taraba State.”
