PDP’s claim on Ogun defection deceitful —ACNThe Action Congress of Nigeria, Ogun State chapter, on Tuesday in Abeokuta said the reported defection of about 2,000 members from the ruling party in the state to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party was deceitful.

Publicity Secretary of the ACN in the state, Mr. Sola Lawal, said in a statement that the reported defection of the ACN members was a “desperate engagement in futile wishful thinking by the opposition PDP”.

The PDP in Ogun had last Saturday claimed that 2,000 members of the ACN, led by a former local government chairmanship aspirant, Yemi Duduyemi, dumped the party in Ijebu Mushin area of the state for the opposition.

The ruling party however pointed out that Duduyemi only went back to his original party, the PDP, with eight of his supporters with whom he earlier defected to the ACN.

The party said, “The honest truth in the matter is that Duduyemi embraced ACN along with eight of his supporters on the eve of nomination for council election in the hope of acquiring the ticket of the party to contest the election.

“Having lost in the bid to realise an inordinate ambition, the character subsequently retraced his steps back to the PDP along with eight members of his family he originally came with. The eight others include Femi Duduyemi, Kole Duduyemi and Olaitan Duduyemi.”

The ACN observed that in the recently concluded revalidation of membership register conducted by the party, Mushin, which constitutes only one of the 10 wards in Ijebu East Local Government, turned in 523 members,

“It is therefore a confounding illogicality that a party would allegedly lose defectors whose number triples total number of registered members in the same locality,”  it said.
