Welcome to Afric tv24's News Update
The movement into Delta communities by people suspected to be Fulani herdsmen, has created palpable tension in the area, and left many residents scared, after more than 16 people have been feared dead in the last two months.
In the wake of this bizarre killings allegedly perpetrated by the suspected herdsmen, the people of Akumazi Community, Ika North East local government area of the state have appealed to the state governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, to intervene and put a stop to the incessant grazing of their farm lands by the animals herded by the suspects.
Speaking to Leadership Friday, the traditional ruler in the area, HRM Obi Stephen Chukwuyeme Osagie III, however, called on the state government to come to their aid with security agents, noting that members of the clan who challenged the suspected cattle dealers have either been killed or sustained machete cuts.
The traditional ruler disclosed that palpable tension pervade the entire community,as residents now sleep with an eye open.
Residents of two other communities, Leadership Friday reliably gathered, especially Ogume in Ndokwa West local government area, have also raised the alarm, following the killings of 10 of its members by the suspected Fulani herdsmen who invaded their farms last week.
The story, Leadership Friday understands, is the same in Ughelli North (Uwheni/Agbadama), where the activities of the suspected Fulani herdsmen left many wounded and several dead, before the state government moved in to contain the situation.
In Abavo, the situation portends bad omen for farmers, following the alleged killings of persons in their farmlands by unknown gunmen.
Speaking to journalists, Police Commissioner in the state, Mr. Ikechukwu Aduba, disclosed that the police have arrested several persons suspected to be Fulani herdsmen, adding that “the police will leave no stone unturned to bring those perpetrating these evil acts to book.”
