Chelsea look set to beat London rivals Tottenham for the second time in the transfer market this summer as they close in on Porto winger Christian Atsu.

The Blues sensationally snatched Brazilian forward Willian for £30million shortly after he had  completed a medical at White Hart Lane - and Jose Mourinho is prepared to deny his former assistant Andre Villas-Boas another signing.

The Spurs boss, who gave Atsu his debut at Porto, has been tracking the 21-year-old since it became clear that he would not sign a new contract at the Estadio do Dragao.

Liverpool also made a £5million offer for the young Ghana international as he entered the final year of his contract this summer but failed to agree a fee - leaving Chelsea best placed to sign him for as little as £3.5million, according to Sky Sports sources.

With six creative midfield players - Eden Hazard, Kevin De Bruyne, Andre Schurrle, Juan Mata, Victor Moses and Wilian - now at Stamford Bridge it is not clear if Atsu will be used immediately or sent out on loan.
