The Dis-engaged workers are yet to be paid, Which the government promised to commence the payment last week.

The issue of severance package to be paid to electricity workers who were disengaged by the federal government is still raging on as the workers are yet to be paid their severance packages which the government promised to commence the payment last week.

According to the Secretary General of the National Union of Electricity Employees, Mr Joe Ajaero the union is now demanding an additional one year payment for the lost period between when the agreement was reached and now.

The federal government promised to commence severance pay to the workers last week but the workers union said no worker has been paid after the power holding company was unbundled into 17 successor companies to pave the way for privatization, but the paying off of the workers has been a spanner in the wheel of a successful transition.

An agreement was finally reached in 2012 to pay off the gratuity and pensions to the tune of over 300 billion naira, payment the workers are still waiting for.

However, the fears of the private investors are now coming to pass as they emphasized earlier that issues concerning labour in the power sector be resolved in good so as not to begin the new phase of the power sector with setbacks.
