    Africcon New Media – News

ChrysanthemumThe  Archbishop of Jos,   Most Rev Ignatius Kaigama, has  expressed optimism of an imminent end to the circle of violence in Plateau State and the country.

The Archbishop also lamented the unfortunate sufferings  of the people caused by religious, political and ethnic killings and destruction of properties in the North.

“As the nation celebrates this centenary of coming together as Nigerians, the citizens should be celebrating  unity, peace and development, and  not  lack of peace and underdevelopment  caused by fighting and killing of one another in the name of crisis  even at  the slightest or no provocation,” Kaigama said in a statement in Jos on Tuesday.

Kaigama urged the government at all levels to initiate meaningful youth development programmes to remove jobless youths from the streets and reduce their penchant for violent acts.

He urged Nigerians to use the nation’s centenary to forge spirit of love and forgiveness.

Kaigama, who said he recently paid a solidarity visit to the Catholic Archdiocese of  Maiduguri to commiserate with them on the spate of violence in Borno State,  lamented the extent of carnage and loss of lives in the state.

The statement read in part, “We all know that the unfortunate loss of lives and property  is affecting all across ethnic , political and religious divide and so we must embrace one another in love and peace as no nation develops without peace

“We are also calls on the federal, state and local  governments to give priority to youth social welfare through good education and employment. If this is tackled, would reduce the high level of social unrest and violence.”
