A leader of the Peoples Democratic Party in Bayelsa State, Chief Mark Bou, has said that the Niger Delta region will return to the trenches if forces against President Goodluck Jonathan deny him a second term in 2015.
Bou, who is the Pere Odoh V1 of Peretoru town, described persons opposing the President as enemies of a united Nigeria.
The community leader said in Yenagoa on Wednesday that the development in the country showed that most people were simply opposed to Jonathan because he came from the minority.
Accusing such persons as averse to the continuous existence of Nigeria as a nation, Bou insisted that for peace to reign in the country, Jonathan must be allowed to consolidate on his vision and development of the Niger Delta region.
He regretted that Oloibiri, where crude oil was struck in commercial quantity, had become a symbol of neglect in the region, adding that Jonathan was divinely made the President to develop the region.
“We also want to warn that should anything terrible happen to the President, Niger Deltans will have no option but to go back to the trenches. Nigeria may not be the same again. It can’t be as usual. We should be ready to bear the consequences.”
