Africcon Report: Assembly screens Ekiti deputy gov-nominee
Africcon New Media – News
The Ekiti State Deputy Governor-nominee, Prof. Modupe Adelabu, on Tuesday appeared before the state House of Assembly to defend her nomination.
Governor Kayode Fayemi had on Friday nominated Adelabu to replace the late Mrs. Funmilayo Olayinka, who died of breast cancer on April 6.
The lawmakers started screening Adelabu at a parliamentary meeting as early as 8:30am and the whole process ended around 10:30am.
Politicians who had thronged the House of Assembly and took their seats as early as 8:am were disappointed when the Speaker, Dr. Adewale Omirin, the deputy governor-nominee and other lawmakers emerged from the parliamentary meeting and went straight outside to take group photographs.
The Speaker in an interview with journalists said that Adelabu was drilled for 30 minutes and she performed brilliantly as expected.
Adelabu sought the cooperation of every resident of the state to enable the Fayemi-led administration deliver 100 per cent of what he promised the electorate.
She said, “Irrespective of our political differences, this state belongs to all of us. We should all come together and forget our political differences to build the state because whatever happens now, either good or bad, will be for all of us.
“We are already in a new dawn in Ekiti State under Governor Kayode Fayemi, we should cooperate and work together to move the state forward.
“I never expected this position because there was no vacancy until the unfortunate demise of our late Deputy Governor, Mrs. Funmilayo Olayinka.”
