Arsene Wenger has been given permission by Arsenal to make a £40 million bid for Liverpool's Luis Suarez, according to reports in the British media.

Wenger is set to make another audacious bid after reportedly having bids of £30 million and £35 million rejected by the Reds. According to the Daily Mail, Wenger is prepared to test the apparent release clause in Suarez's contract - which Liverpool deny could be activated with a £40 million bid - and he has the backing of Arsenal's board to do so.
