Blog - Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho says the England national team will suffer if Wayne Rooney is second choice at Manchester United.
David Moyes has repeatedly insisted that Rooney is not for sale, but the striker is believed to be unhappy at comments made by the United boss, who implied that he would play second fiddle to Robin van Persie next season.
Chelsea this week had tabled a bid for the 27-year-old, and on Wednesday evening, Mourinho revealed Rooney was his only remaining transfer target.
Whether the England forward is eventually sold by the Premier League champions remains to be seen, but Mourinho has insisted that remaining second in the pecking order to Van Persie will only damage Roy Hodgson's Three Lions hopes ahead of next summer's 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
"If Wayne is a second choice for Man United, then the national team will be affected," the former Real Madrid coach was quoted by The Independent as saying.
